Mera Peak (6,476 m ) is the highest trekking peak in Nepal, located in the remote Hinku Valley of the Solu-Khumbu region, south of Mount Everest. Part of the Mahalangur Himalayas, it is renowned for its spectacular scenery and rewarding summit views. The standard North Route is technically straightforward, making it an excellent choice for trekkers with good fitness and previous high-altitude trekking experience.

  •     Highest Trekking Peak in Nepal: Standing at 6,476 m (21,247 ft), it is the highest peak in Nepal designated for trekking rather than a full expedition permit.
  • The Three Summits:The Mountain features three distinct points: Mera North (6,476 m, the standard goal), Mera Central (6,461 m), and Mera South (6,065 m).
  • Five 8,000-Meter Giants:On a clear day, the summit offers a rare 360-degree panorama of five of the world’s 14 highest mountains: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga.
  • Hinku Valley Wilderness:Unlike the crowded main Everest trails, the route travels through the remote Hinku Valley, known for its pristine ecosystems and dramatic views of the south faces of neighboring giants.
  • Technically Straightforward:Graded at Alpine PD (Peu Difficile), the ascent is primarily a “glacier walk”. While non-technical, the final 40–50 meters involve a steep snow dome (30°–50°) where fixed ropes and jumars are often utilized.
  • Acclimatization Focus:High-altitude sickness is the primary challenge. Standard itineraries for 2026 generally span 16 to 20days to ensure safe physiological adaptation.
  • Historic Amputee Feat:In 2017, Hari Budha Magar became the first double above-knee amputee to summit a peak over 6,000 m on Mera.
  • Guinness World Record:In May 2024, a team set the record for the highest altitude fitness session on its summit.
  • Zatrwa La Pass (4,610 m):Most routes cross this high mountain pass, providing early acclimatization and panoramic views of the Hinku Valley.
  • Sherpa & Rai Heritage:The journey passes through remote villages like Panggom and Khare, offering deep cultural immersion and opportunities to witness local Himalayan traditions.
