The Shey Phoksundo Trek is a short yet stunning trek in western Nepal’s remote Dolpo region, taking you to Phoksundo Lake, the deepest and one of the most beautiful lakes in Nepal. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs and alpine forests, the lake’s vibrant turquoise color is a highlight of the journey.
The trek begins with a flight to Juphal via Nepalgunj and follows scenic trails through traditional villages like Dunai, Chhepka, and Ringmo, where Tibetan Buddhist and Bonpo cultures are still preserved. Along the way, you’ll pass Jharana Waterfall, one of Nepal’s highest, and explore ancient monasteries like Tshowa Gompa.

Located within the Shey Phoksundo National Park, this trek begins in Juphal, which is accessible by a short flight from Nepalgunj. The trail ascends gradually through the Suligad River valley, passing picturesque villages, forests, canyons, and waterfalls before reaching Ringmo Village, a traditional Tibetan Bonpo settlement perched above the lake.
